This trail is about a mile and a half long and adjoins the Chapel Hill Community Center Park. On Mt. Sinai Road a short distance from Chapel Hill's downtown area is the Johnston Mill Nature Preserve. This area is a hikers paradise with 296 acres of preserved land available for your next outdoor adventure! There are three miles worth of hiking trails that offer beautiful scenery with wooded peace and quiet. Take the Beech Loop Trail on the preserve if you'd like to see some beautiful old forests with various trees including black walnut, red cedar, sweetgum, tulip poplar, and 150-year-old beech trees! On the preserve, you'll see historic remains from different area landmarks.
University of North Carolina students have a remarkable area right in their backyard for hiking. Carolina North Forest consists of 750 acres of beautiful wooded area located between Chapel Hill and Carrboro. It provides a beautiful getaway from the grind of daily life for anyone (especially stressed-out college students!)
